Advanced Viral
Research Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: ADVR), established in the
mid-1980s, and headquartered in Yonkers, New York, is a
biopharmaceutical firm dedicated to improving patients' lives by
researching, developing, and bringing to market new and effective
therapies for many serious diseases and disorders.
With the commitment
of expert leadership and skilled research scientists, ADVR is
aggressively working to bring its flagship product, AVR118, to
patients. A real blockbuster potential exists for this new type of
biopolymer chemistry, which possesses novel immunomodulator
activity. This peptide-nucleic acid complex, which to date has
demonstrated a very favorable safety profile, appears to stimulate
the pro-inflammatory response required to combat viral infections,
such as HIV; and to dampen aberrant autoimmune-type inflammatory
responses, which often occur in diseases such as rheumatoid
arthritis.
In December 2004
ADVR announced an IND approval for AVR118 by the United States Food
and Drug Administration. This allows the company to conduct a Phase
II clinical trial in the United States. The study will examine the
safety, tolerability, and efficacy of AVR118 in patients with
advanced cancer who are suffering from symptoms of progressive
disease. In addition, in January 2005 the company announced the
final results of its Phase I/II clinical trial
of AVR118 in patients with AIDS, which was conducted in
Israel at the Kaplan Medical Center. The study results showed that
AVR118 continues to demonstrate evidence of unique patient benefits,
a favorable safety profile, and no apparent drug-related adverse
events.
Advanced Viral
Research Corp. has about 17,000 square feet of office, laboratory
and pilot manufacturing space at its headquarters. In addition to
12 patents, ADVR currently has applications for well over 20
additional patents related to AVR118, and continues to submit
applications for additional patents.
